This well seasoned Louisiana piano player has a voice that reflects many of the smoky nights spent in bar rooms and the dance halls where he truly honed his craft. One of his first gigs was with Jo-El Sonnier and his Cajun group and that is what led him eventually to the Lafayette area of his home statewhere he met up with some Cajun upstarts, Filé. He toured with them for several years and loved playing in the noisy dance halls they frequented. Just by being in the area and playing music with them led him to the legendary Creole fiddler, Canray Fontenot. All the while he kept writing songs and they were being covered by the likes of Johnny Adams, Percy Sledge, and Irma Thomas.
Eagan's piano playing is rooted in the swampy blues of his home state, though his parents were more into classical music. There is even a raspy gravelly feel to his piano playing that is reminiscent of those mud and shell backroads where he was honing his craft. His voice is perfectly matched to that roughened, gritty slightly clouded feel that often is found in those that inhabit honky tonks where there is not enough ventilation, though at times it doesn't seem to have the force to carry the tune across. Fortunately, just enough of Cajun influence has rubbed off on him to give this disc a slightly different quality that separates it from all the other piano blues discs.
