Any song that opens with the exhausted—ocean-tears-emotions-fears—sends up a very red flag to yours truly. But then the big harmony laden chorus kicks in and I listen further. Then follows the high schoolish Be By Your Side and the red flag unfurls again.
And thus is the story with The Storys. Cinnamon has all the snap, crackle, pop and soaring singing. Then High Enough(a poor man's Eagles outtake) follows. Roll Like A Stone chimes. One up. Then The King of Broken Dreams (oh goody, still another one!) and Journey's End. Two down.
With their Eagles/Matchbox 20/Bryan Adams punch and melodrama, The Storys have a good chance to appeal to a wide array of listeners. But their songs have got to offer more.
