Adieu False HeartThe Zozo Sisters
|

|
Continuing their roots true Cajun connection made in 2002 on the Grammy nominated Evangeline Made. Ronstadt and Cajun historian/musician Ann Savoy make the contemporary rootsy on the bittersweet Adieu False Heart. With emphatic musicianship provided by such acoustic/Americana luminaries as mandolinist extraordinaire Sam Bush, guitarist Sam Broussard, Joel Savoy - guitar and fiddle, bassist Byron House, the impeccable and moving violin of Andrea Zonn and Kirstin Wilinson on strings, Savoy and Ronstadt sing these songs as naturally as they breathe. The Left Banke's Walk Away Renee positively glistens. Linda's heartfelt take on Julie Miller's I Can't Get Over You harkens back to Heart Like A Wheel, reminding you why you fell in love with her all those years ago. Two of Richard Thompson's more piquant observations King of Bohemia and the resigned Burn's Supper are both achingly beautiful, as each woman takes a lead. Rattle My Cage and Too Old To Die Young are, quite simply, hymns. Though you could argue that many of these songs sound too samey - the slow, bittersweet love songs do dominate - I personally don't care what the Zozo Sisters lend their angelic voices to, when it sounds this close to Heaven.
