Multiple award winning (IBMA, SPBGMA, and Grammy nominations) vocalist and mandolinist Rhonda Vincent's joy and unstoppable energy for making music is certainly palpable on her latest Rounder collection.
Though there isn't a dud among the dozen, there are a few clichés that make you sigh and move on: the autobiographical title track is another in a long line of "proud to be"…such and such songs. And though her deep sincerity and open heart cannot be called into question, God Bless The Soldier, and Till They Come Home are very familiar takes on an all too familiar subject.
Possessor of a killer set of pipes, killer tracks include: the achingly bittersweet Forever Ain't That Long Anymore; Heartbreaker's Alibi, a rip of a tune with mentor Dolly Parton singing by her side; the emotive Prettiest Flower There; Jesus Built A Bridge To Heaven and Roy Acuff's Precious Jewel. Throughout, Vincent and her accept-any-challenge band The Rage -- Mickey Harris, Josh Williams, Hunter Berry, and Kenny Ingram - power-up or mellow down on a dime, giving this hard drivin' lady plenty of room.
