Ten in Texas may not be an earth-shattering or even jalapeno shaking event (do we really need another version of ol' Willie singing Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys or Aaron Watson's formulaic take on Holly's True Love Ways?), but it sure as hell beats listening to Texan in the White House and his band of self-righteous avengers.
The highlight here is Joe Ely's soulful take on Kristofferson's classic Sunday Morning Coming Down, which had me scrambling through the vinyl for my old Kris records. Guy Clark's jumping Texas Cookin' gets a rousing and rigorous kick off by Ruthie Foster, whom I think we should all hear more from. This lady can sing! Long time Bob Wills torchbearers Asleep At The Wheel light up Don Rollins' The Other Woman.
A crackerjack band, including Dave Sarger, Lloyd Maines, James Polk, and Jason Roberts add the lone star punch.
