Jayme Curtis introduces us to twelve songs on her debut CD In A Rushing Stream, which received praise from various California radio stations. A pleasant effort of mostly mellow music with a 'new age' touch, the production is too smooth and polished for my taste. The tunes lacked a 'hook' to really grab me! My two favorites are the somewhat honky-tonk Lifeline, with strong piano accompaniment and fun harmony singing (Jayme & Jayme) and Big City Blues, a sparse arrangement. Her voice displays an interesting rough edge that otherwise disappears behind the glaze. Jayme chose Bay area musicians including Santana's percussionist and bass player, so quality is abundant. Still, I feel there´s too many cymbals, little bells and other embellishments distracting from the songs. Overall, In a Rushing Stream, demonstrates true talent that can blossom in the future!
